Berry Picking Time!

Dating: the formal, or sometimes not so formal, going out with the opposite sex to get to know and bond with each other. An activity between two people of aquaintance or of love.
Date day, for David and me, happens once a week. It's a day we always look forward too because no matter how busy life gets, we force ourselves to stop and enjoy each other. For how long this will last, I don't know. We hope to be able to do it even with screaming kids in the house. For now, I look to thursdays or sundays, when we get to do the things on our check list that we've always wanted to do. Recently, we went to Huber Farm and picked berries with Tootsie. We packed a lunch, loaded up the car and was on our way. Now, in the past, a trip to Huber meant some how both of us were in a bad mood. We don't understand it, but this time, we were determined to have a good day. Lunch under a big tree by a pond was wonderful!

Picking Blackberries was a joy and we were so surpised to see so many berries that were ready and ripe for the picking! Tootsie had a blast eating all the ones she could find on the ground. The great thing about picking your own is you can snack on the produce and try it out before you buy :)

Off to Blueberries we were! Neither of us had picked blueberries before. Hint: Just craddle a bunch of them in your hand while still in the vine and then roll them around gentley in your figures and the ripe ones will just fall off into your bucket! The minor problem was Tootsie getting away from us in the blueberry bushes and we ended up hearing her barking at a local farmer a couple yards away....oh little dog... However, by the end of the picking, we were so hot from the sun and so full from snacking on berries that I could have slept right there in the berry bush.
Huber also makes their own wine, ice cream and cheese. We decided to tie tootsie to a block and run in to get some ice cream. David came back out to give her some cool water to find she was gone. After 10 minutes of waiting for him to come back, I checked outside. HUSBAND AND DOG were gone! But where? Come to find out, Tootsie got loose from her tie and bolted across the parking lot to the pond to get a good look at the geese it the water. David had run after her and three women were helping to choral her. Much to their disappointment, when they left to help with Tootsie, their huge cart of berries fell over and spilled their freshly bought produce all over the ground. How do you apologize for something like that?! David offered to buy their produce, but they were sweet about it. Man, oh man,...a little dog is just like having three kids! HA!

In reading your entry today, I was reminded of the quote to "Stop and smell the roses." It is indeed important to take time to spend time with those we care about, be they husband, wife, children, or friends. It is so true that in our busy lives we can so easily be consumed with that business that we forget what is really important here which is relationships and memories. Today I had the good fortune to spend quality time with some very good Deaf lady friends of mine in my close friendship circle. We were all tired from work, parenting, summer housework, and the like; however we had not all been together for a long time and some we had not seen for almost a year! We were all tired and some of us have not been feeling well lately but we were purposed to get together today, regardless. Even with one friends two-year-old daughter running around Starbucks getting into things and throwing tantrums at times, we had the best 4 hours of coffee and chat about more subjects than you can shake a stick at! Although it was frustrating for the mother of the two-year-old to try and deal with the little girl at times, some of us older moms who had already been through that age with our own kids, were able to share our experiences and help her see the humor in it all! We laughed and cried and shared stories, recent news, and past experiences. We all signed frantically and non-stop about this thing or that and time seemed to fly by! The people in the room around us just faded away in our focus of each other. We encouraged each other and vowed to become a support group for each other. We also promised not to allow so much time to pass before we got together again and do this kind of thing on a more regular basis, for ourselves and for each other. The basis of your story is similar to my experience today with my friends and I am once again reminded that relationships are important and they must be nurtured if they are to grow. A positive attitude is necessary every day. Especially when we are feeling sad or angry, those are the times to lean into our loved ones and share and make a new memory, turn it around for positive! It can be something as simple as berry picking, lunch under a tree near the lake, laughing with friends, chasing a two-year-old or chasing after a puppy who's chasing geese. If you purpose it for good then it ends up being a simple pleasure and a memory that will last!! Our next girls date is planned to be an all ladies slumber party to keep me company after my surgery...HMMM THAT should be interesting!!

OH YES I BELIEVE WE NEVER "ARRIVE" TILL WE GET TO OUR FINAL DESTINATION AT THE END OF OUR LIVES AND THAT WE NEVER STOP LEARNING, EVEN IN HEAVEN GOD WILL HAVE TONS MORE INFO FOR US LIKE HOW PYRAMIDS WERE MADE AND WHAT'S UP WITH POMEGRANATES. OUR LIFE EXPERIENCES ARE LESSONS FOR US OR MAKE US WHO WE ARE AS PEOPLE. THEY CAN ALSO HELP OTHERS IF WE SHARE WHAT WE HAVE BEEN THROUGH.
